When working in veterinary practice, you may hear many different terms when discussing the X-ray systems used in practice: Abbreviations such as CR, DR, DDR and CCD are quite commonly discussed and it can be confusing but don't worry we are here to help you understand this a little bit better.
Digital X-ray put simply is the capture of an X-ray exposure electronically. The X-ray exposure is retained in a system that then converts it into a digital signal , which then appears on a computer screen for the vet to assess and make a diagnosis. There are different types of X-ray technology that can help create this image that appears on the screen: CR, CCF , DR (sometimes called DDR).
When CR radiography was first introduced to the veterinary world, it revolutionised veterinary X-ray work , providing a much faster way of obtaining X-ray images. However , like many other forms of technology, radiography systems have been developed even further with the innovation of DR X-ray technology. This technology and the systems that use it are able to produce an X-ray image for viewing in a matter of seconds, even quicker than the CR technology that came before it.
